“I didn’t give you the gift of life … life gave me the gift of you.” – Unknown
Families are made in all different ways. I felt very honored to be a part of Isla Rose’s adoption story – if only in just the tiniest way. I had the honor of photographing Christen and Greg’s wedding several years ago in 2010, and a few months ago, Christen contacted me to inquire about a newborn session, which is always exciting! But there was an extra special twist in this case: they were in the process of adopting out of state, and they weren’t quite sure when they would be able to return with their new bundle of love, so scheduling was up in the air. Well, everything went beautifully, and they brought little Isla Rose home with all her squishy newness and squeaky coos in less than two weeks of her arrival. Christen and Greg opted for an in-home session, and Isla slept like a champ, enjoying the warm snuggles with her mama and her papa (they did a great job of cranking the heat – haha). She even graced us with a few sweet smiles. She was home.
Christen had mentioned that the nursery wasn’t ‘ready’ but as all new parents know – are you ever really completely 100% ready? We totally made it work. I fell in love with the furniture Christen had acquired from her childhood and refinished for little Isla’s nursery. And an extra-special touch was the salt lamp, which they incorporated into a few photos to represent Isla’s birth-mother. The first photo in this post gave me chills as I snapped it. I just think it’s beyond beautiful – a full circle of hearts who came together for the love of one little girl. Congratulations to this new family, and welcome to the world Isla Rose!
